Super Bowl 2009
With just four teams left in this wacky NFL postseason, many Las Vegas Sportsbooks have posted odds on teams to win the whole thing. I say “wacky” because of the four teams remaining, only Pittsburgh is considered a “top seed”. They came into the playoffs at no. 2 while the Titans and Giants were no. 1’s respectively. The Eagles, Ravens, and Cardinals are all wild card teams. This is the first time this has ever happened in modern NFL history.
Forget the point spread, the underdogs won three of the four weekend games straight up, with the largest upset being Arizona, a 9 1/2 underdog favorite, covering and winning straight up. If you played them on the money line, you pocketed somewhere around $330 for every hundred wagered. The Steelers were the only favorite cover, and win for that matter, being 6 1/2 point favorites and winning by eleven when it was all said and done.
Now we are at the AFC and NFC Championship stage of the postseason. This is the time that many argue is the most exciting period of the season, even more so than the Super Bowl itself. I say it is the Pro Bowl that is most exciting! Just Kidding. But I digress.
The Las Vegas Hilton posted Pittsburgh as the new Super Bowl favorite at 8-5 odds, followed by Philadelphia (11-5), Baltimore (3-1) and Arizona (5-1). WOW. It is truly anyones game to win. Pittsburgh is the clear cut favorite, but not like favorites of years past. I myself love a true underdog story and would love to see Arizona in the big game. I personally may bet them just for sh*ts and giggles. After all, I put 5 bucks on Miami to win it all at the beginning of the season. My friends laughed at me saying I should have just bought lottery tickets instead. But who was laughing when Miami became AFC Champs?? Besides, it paid 400 for 5 bucks, why not?
