Florida Fan Stands to Win $168K If Duke Wins Tourney

If Florida and Duke win their respective national semifinal games on Saturday, that would set up an interesting situation for one very excited bettor. “Thousand Dolla Bill” is the college nickname of a 45-year-old sports bettor who hails from St. Augustine, Florida.
Bill, and several of his family members, graduated from the University of Florida. He has been a diehard Gators fan in all sports for a very long time. There is no doubt he will be rooting for Florida in its semifinal game against Auburn on Saturday.
Bill has also been an avid sports bettor since the state allowed legal sports gambling in 2021. Hard Rock Bet is the only sportsbook that operates in the state. Bill has been placing bets at Hard Rock over the last four-plus years. Like many sports bettors, Bill likes to dabble in parlays.
Earlier this year, he put a whole $5 on a five-leg parlay. The first four legs have already cashed:
- Tennessee to win College World Series (+650)
- LA Dodgers to win World Series (+300)
- Ohio State to win College Football Playoff (+450)
- Philadelphia Eagles to win Super Bowl (+1600)
The final leg of that parlay bet is Duke to win the men’s college basketball national championship at odds of +1100. Bill’s parlay odds are +336590. That means if Duke wins the national championship, Bill stands to collect $168,300.
That would create a weird dynamic for Bill given his allegiance to the Florida Gators. Plus, there was no cash-out offer from Hard Rock. The company’s systems changed recently, and some older bets no longer were given cash-out options. What was Bill to do?

If you have engaged in sports betting enough and have bet enough parlays, you know that sportsbooks will often offer a cash-out option. Let’s say you’ve hit three legs of your four-leg parlay. Your sportsbook will give you the option of cashing out early. Instead of a potential loss, you can accept a payment which will be less than if you let it ride until the end. But, at least you walk away in the positive.
Now, Bill did finally receive a cash-out offer from Hard Rock just before the Sweet 16. Bill had also gone to social media where he posted a photo of his ticket and reached out to several different members of the sports betting community. In the end, he connected with PropSwap, which is a secondary market where sports bets can be bought and sold.
Bill eventually sold half of his parlay bet for $20,250 just before Duke had beaten Alabama in the Elite Eight. He’ll walk away with the $20K no matter what. He’ll also stand to profit if Duke does eventually win the national title. Bill has also looked into different ways to hedge his bet on the Blue Devils.
But Wait, There’s More
Bill also has another interesting parlay that is still alive. This parlay also included Ohio State winning the CFP as well as the Eagles winning the Super Bowl. The third leg of the four-leg parlay is Duke to win the NCAA tournament. The final leg is Oklahoma City winning the NBA championship at odds of +750 at online sportsbooks. It should be noted that the Thunder are the betting favorite to win the NBA crown this season.
This four-leg parlay has odds of +747900. The wager was $6.34 and the payout, should the remaining two legs cash, is $52,164.89. Bill has said that he would not entertain any cash-out offers on that parlay. It remains to be seen if he’ll take that one to PropSwap.
