NCAA Lobbies to Ban Player Props

There have been a series of instances where college players have been caught up in betting scandals in recent years. Like the one at the University of Texas most recently where two football players were found to have bet on player props. These props have become popular with many folks in the betting community.
The NCAA has taken notice and is now in the process of lobbying sportsbooks to remove this option from their betting offerings. NCAA President Charlie Baker is leading the charge and has recently spoke out. “They get demands for money from unhappy bettors for trivial things that don’t impact the result on the field,” Baker said. “Many have received death threats from bettors, and they also receive other, in-person threats and accusations directed at them while they’re leaving or coming onto the field of play.”
Baker said that not only will it help curb the appeal of players and personnel betting on games but it will alleviate the toxic environment which has grown around the activity in regards to players. Players routinely claim to receive nasty messages on social media. A year ago North Carolina basketball player Armando Bacot announced that he had received dozens of death threats online.
There is no telling if sportsbook or their regulation commissions will approve this change.
