Mavs Lakers Trade and How it Affected Odds

The bombshell trade which sent Luca Doncic to LA and Anthony Davis a week ago has many people perplexed. Already there have been many conspiracy theories revolving around why the trade happened and who really orchestrated it. Lebron James and Jason Kidd both claim that they were unaware of it before it happened but many fans seem dubious.
At the start of the season the Lakers were anywhere between +1000 and +2000 odds to win the championship, depending on which sportsbook you used. The Mavs, fresh off an appearance in the NBA championship series, came in at +2220 and +4100 at season start. As the season unfolded both odds shortened somewhat.
Though the Mavericks are sitting right at .500 on the season and Lakers are 29-19, oddsmakers have shortened the odds for both teams after the trade. At sportsbetting.ag you can currently find the Lakers at +800 and the Mavericks at +2800.
The reasons for these odds shortening are two-fold. Some bettors believe the trade will make either or both of these teams better. The other reason is simply because the spotlight on the trades caused more casual bettors to throw down action on these two franchises. The Streisand effect perhaps.
Anyway, I have included a video below where they plainly lay out the motivations for the trade and all the doubts associated with the official reasons for it. Enjoy.
