There are 32 teams in the National Football League (NFL), equally divided into four divisions each in the American and National Football Conferences. Each of the best NFL jerseys is unique in its own way, with some more recognizable than others. 

That’s due in large part to the success of certain teams, as a winning history is led by individually great players whose names and numbers are indelible in the minds of the fans.

Start with running back extraordinaire Jim Brown’s No. 32 with the “old” Cleveland Browns. It wasn’t that long ago that Walter Payton’s No. 34 of the Chicago Bears and the Detroit Lions Barry Sanders and his No. 20 ran roughshod through the league.  

Besides Mahomes, other current popular jerseys include young quarterbacks C.J. Stroud’s No. 7 of the Houston Texans, Caleb Williams (No. 18) of the Chicago Bears, and the No, 5 of the Washington Commanders’ Jayden Daniels.

Giving some equal time to defenders, linebackers Dick Butkus (No. 51) of the Chicago Bears and the No. 56 of the New York Giants’ Lawrence Taylor were just plain scary at that position.   

There’s the worldwide appeal as well, as the NFL, along with the other major pro leagues in North America, has been dedicated to growing its brand on other continents. The league has played games outside the United States since 2005. London is by far the leading second home, with some three dozen games held in England. Mexico City (site of that first international game in 2005) and Germany have also been popular non-U.S. destinations. 

The league also broadcasts to many of those same venues, hawking both the product and the merchandise during the games via the NFL store.

Indeed. Nike has made the official NFL jersey and sideline apparel since 2012 and is contracted to continue through 2027. Reebok formerly made the uniforms.

Concerning the new NFL uniforms and which one is the best, there aren’t any winners (or losers) in that argument. It’s not sacrilege to connect the dots of the fans and say his/her favorite team has his/her favorite uniform as well. By now, each of the 32 teams has uniforms that are easily identifiable across the league.  

Why Are NFL Teams Wearing Throwback Uniforms?

Some of the best NFL jerseys are throwbacks, as old school rules the day because not only are those retro outfits that celebrate the history of the league (and the AFL) just plain cool, but they also provide the league another avenue to move the merchandise. 

It’s not just jerseys. Helmets are in play as well, as “secondary” head-to-toe apparel is worn by all teams throughout the season. Whether wearing them makes one smarter when betting on NFL specials is not known.
