These College Football Teams are Favored to Make the Playoffs
This will be the first year of the expanded 12-team NCAA football playoffs. Finally, teams that aren’t in the Big Ten or SEC will have a chance to compete for the trophy.
Various factors have kept the college football playoff from happening for over 100 years. The antiquated bowl game system kept this from being a reality for many years. The people running those bowls pushed hard to avoid having playoffs so that their particular event would remain important. In Fact, they didn’t budge until the NCAA guaranteed that they would find a way to keep the bowl games in the mix somehow.
The poll systems fought against the playoffs as well. Why have a playoff when you could just take their word for it, right? Lol. They loved being the final word on the matter. But the fans had enough and pushed harder and harder for a playoff.
The 4 team playoff began not long ago but left something to be desired. Teams that weren’t allowed in the 4 team playoff had a good case to be made why they deserved a shot at competing for the national championship. Remember UCF?
Below you can find the top teams favored to make the NCAA playoffs. These odds are of the “yes” or “no” variety. It is interesting to see Alabama and Georgia such heavy favorites to make it in when they have two losses a piece. It makes you wonder if teams are giving it their all anymore knowing that they can make the playoffs after losing two games in the regular season. There was something really awesome about the sudden-death nature of college football of old where if you lost one game, especially late in the season, your chances of winning it all were essentially nil.
