Heisman Trophy Odds – There is a New Sheriff in Town
Heisman trophies typically go to quarterbacks. The position is generally considered “the General” on the football field. Every play goes through him and his passing ability will almost always affect the outcome of the game.
This is why when RB Ashton Jeanty of Boise State was the leading candidate in previous odds, many said it simply wouldn’t last. And they were right.
After a relatively pedestrian output by Jeanty and by Heisman standards this past Friday, he slid down the odds sheet a little. Jeanty ran for 131 yards on 33 carries for just a 3.9 YPC average. He also scored 1 TD. He now has 1,376 yards and 18 TD’s rushing on the season.
So, who is the new odds-on favorite? That would be the two-way star Travis Hunter from Colorado. This guy is considered a top-tier cornerback and he ain’t bad on offense either. He played every play on both offense and defense until near the very end of the game this past weekend against Cincinnati. He has 60 receptions for 757 yards and 8 TD’s as a WR. He also have 2 interceptions, a forced fumble and 7 passes defensed.
QB Dillon Gabriel and his Ducks put on quite the show when they beat up on #20 ranked Illinois in this last game. He threw for a TD and rushed for another. HIs team is currently ranked #1 in all the land. I think the smart money is on Gabriel as he will most likely continue this level of play and his final stats will be staggering.
