GOLF Preview of BMW Championship – Odds – Pick
The 2024 FedEx Cup Playoffs are currently underway on the PGA Tour, while the field is shrinking rapidly. The second tournament of those playoffs finds 50 golfers at Castle Pines Golf Club at Denver competing in the BMW Championship.
With just 50 players on the ‘roster’ this time around, that will keep the betting odds pretty tight. There won’t be any cuts during this tournament, meaning that all golfers are going the distance.
Expect to see movement in the odds during the four rounds of the tourney, with some clear favorites going into Colorado.
The Two Choices
The two PGA standouts players in 2024 have been Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele. It’s no surprise they continue to be betting favorites in each event they enter.
Scheffler is currently the 3-1 (+300) favorite to win at Castle Pines, according to BMW Championship odds. He was the gold medalist at the 2024 Paris Olympics, but finished fourth (to Hideki Matsuyama) at the FedEx St. Jude in Memphis last week.
The two-major winning (this season) Schauffele is the 21-4 (+525) second choice, the only other player under double digits on the board.
Some Other Contenders
As was mentioned, Hideki Matsuyama won the FedEx St. Jude, which was a battle all the way. Matsuyama is another golfer enjoying a solid season in 2024. He will be one of those who figure to be in contention once again, priced at an intriguing 16-1 (+1600) to win.
Rory McIlroy is the third wagering choice at 12-1 (+1200), probably not fair value since he’s burned money any number of times this season.
In between McIlroy and Matsuyama are Collin Morikawa (13-1, [+1300]) and Viktor Hovland (14-1, [+1400]). These two rising Tour stars may well be in play during the course of the event.
Matsuyama is joined at 16-1 (+1600) by Patrick Cantlay, while Ludvig Aberg could entice as a 17-1 (+1700) proposition.
Now, the Longshots
It’s not always easy ‘beating the board’ in golf, but there are times when a bombardier ends atop the leaderboard.
Wyndham Clark, a Colorado native who was seventh in Memphis, is at 25-1 (+2500) to win the BMW Championship.
Justin Thomas, who’s had his moments this season is 35-1 (+3500). Sungjae Im (42-1, [+4200]), Cameron Young (also 42-1 [+4200]) and Jason Day (45-1 [+4500]) may not be that far fetched as far as contenders.
There are any number of alternative wager available on this tournament, as per BMW Championship specials.
Who’s the Winner?
Even though Scottie Scheffler is favored (and isn’t he always?) to win the BMW Championship, looking elsewhere when trying to scope out on the winner. There isn’t a ton of risk/reward when it comes to Scheffler.
We are hopping on the Xander Schauffele train. Though second choice, his +525 quote to win the BMW Championship earns our attention, and our endorsement. Bet it at BetUS.com now
