NFL Pair of Quarterbacks Get Paid – 2024 Passing Yards Leader Odds

James Willis | July 30, 2024
Tua Taglovoila of the Dolphisn new contract

It’s a sure sign the NFL regular season isn’t far, training camps starting throughout the league. There will be those unfortunate injuries in this news cycle. That wasn’t the case last week.

A pair of starting quarterbacks were able to ink new deals, and those deals were huge. Every new quarterback contract tends to reset the market, and these players both found paydirt.

Here’s a look at these stories, and a look at some quarterback odds ahead of this season…

Dolphins and Tagovailoa

Miami couldn’t let quarterback Tua Tagovailoa leave the team, and it gave its star a four-year extension worth $212.4 million. Tagovailoa did express his gratitude several times after signing, speaking with fans as well.

He now becomes the highest-paid player in the history of the Dolphins, the fifth-largest contract in NFL history. Now that he’s in the fold, Tagovailoa now has more pressure than ever to deliver.

Tagovailoa was entering the final year of his rookie contract, coming off of the best season (4,624 passing yards, 29 touchdowns, 14 interceptions) of his four-season career. Miami had to make a decision, and it handsomely paid Tagovailoa after the team went 11-6 last season.

Tagovailoa was the No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL draft, leading the Dolphins to the playoffs each of last two seasons. He hasn’t been able to deliver the team’s first playoff win since the dawn of the new millennium.

Miami Heimliched away the AFC East title last season, forcing it on the road and a wild-card round playoff loss at the Kansas City Chiefs.

Love Ain’t Cheap

It took Jordan Love a few years before earning the starting quarterback job with the Green Bay Packers, but now the team has made sure he is staying.  Love and the Pack agreed to a four- year extension valued at $220 million ($75 million signing bonus).

Jordan Love contract and oddsAt a base salary of $55 million per year, Love is now tied with the Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars in terms of largest annual salary in the history of the league.

Green Bay shocked everyone by selecting Utah St.’s Love in the first round of the 2020 draft, as it obviously had Aaron Rodgers as the pretty fair incumbent. Then, after deciding to let Rodgers leave ahead of the 2023 season, it was the essentially-a-rookie Love playing very well.

Love finished the 2023 season with 4,159 passing yards (32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions). It was 18 touchdowns and one interception over the last eight games.

Love wasn’t on the field during the first four practices as his agents worked with the Packers to hammer out the new deal.

Green Bay, 9-8 last season with a handy wild-card round win at the Dallas Cowboys, joins the ‘Boys as 8-1 (+800) co-fourth choices to win the NFC, according to NFL conference odds.

Quarterback Board Odds

One of the best ways to bet on quarterbacks ahead of the season is to look at the individual categories which are posted.

Who will lead in passing yards is among the more popular wagers out there. There are markets around other positions, but it’s the quarterbacks who tend to get the attention.

Patrick Mahomes of the two-time defending champion Kansas City Chiefs is the clear passing yardage favorite on the board at 5-1 (+500) to win, as per NFL regular-season stat leaders

Mahomes is the gold standard at this position, and the Chiefs’ offense allows him to throw a ton.

Offensive Rookie of the Year a season ago, C.J. Stroud of the Houston Texans is the 6-1 (+600) second choice. Dak Prescott (13-2, [+650]) of the Dallas Cowboys is third on the board

Tua Tagovailoa (see above) of the Miami Dolphins is 8-1 (+800), along with Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions. Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals is right behind at 17-2 (+850).

Here’s a look at some other ‘double-figure’ quarterback odds (league passing-yards leader)…

  • Matthew Stafford 14-1 (+1400)
  • Kirk Cousins 14-1 (+1400)
  • Jordan Love 16-1 (+1500)
  • Josh Allen 18-1 (+1800)
  • Aaron Rodgers 22-1 (+2200)
  • Brock Purdy 25-1 (+2500)
