Best Bets for This Weekend’s Top College Basketball Games – Free Picks

Scott Morris | February 16, 2024
Iowa State basketball

It’s another Super Saturday full of college basketball and Sunday doesn’t disappoint either. There are three matchups of AP Top 25-ranked opponents on Saturday, including a huge No. 1-versus-No. 4 in Milwaukee. In total, 22 of the 25 ranked teams will be in action on Saturday. Two more get after it on Sunday. Here’s a look at the best bets from the top college basketball games this weekend.

TEXAS TECH @ #10 IOWA STATE

Texas Tech is 18-6 overall, 7-4 in the Big 12 and is coming off a huge upset of No. 6 Kansas. That game was at home where the Red Raiders are 13-1 this season. They are just 2-4 in true road games this season. These teams split two games last year with the home team winning both times. Look for the spread to be in the -2.5 to -5.5 range in favor of the home Cyclones.

Iowa State is unbeaten at home this season and they are 12-2 ATS. The Cyclones have won six of their last seven games and they are 6-1 ATS in those seven. This is a perfect letdown spot for Texas Tech after the big win over Kansas. Iowa State is one of the better defensive teams in the country. They rank sixth in points allowed per game (62.1 ppg). The Cyclones will control the tempo and the Red Raiders on Saturday. IOWA STATE TO COVER – Bet Now at BetUS.com

#4 MARQUETTE @ #1 UCONN

It’s the showdown of the day with the top two teams in the Big East duking it out in Connecticut on Saturday. While it appears to be the biggest game of the weekend, it might not turn out that way. The point spread should reflect a tight game played by two teams that could secure No. 1 seeds in the upcoming NCAA tournament. However, this one might not be that close.

UConn has won 13 straight Big East games and had won four straight against Marquette until losing two straight last year. The game the Huskies won last year was played at home. UConn won that one by 15. The Huskies are 13-0 at home – 7-0 at home in Big East games – this season. They have beaten opponents by an average of 17.5 points at home this season.

With the return of 7-2 Donovan Clingan, the Huskies haven’t given up more than 65 points in a game since mid-January. The Huskies also have the top 3-point defense in the Big East. Marquette will struggle and UConn will cover at home. Play it up UConn -6.5. These two teams also are two of the top scoring teams in the country. The Over has cashed in eight of UConn’s last 12 games and in five of the last six in this series. Consider a play on the Over up to 148. UCONN TO COVER – Bet Now at SportsBetting.ag

#6 KANSAS @ #25 OKLAHOMA

Kansas has been a mess on the road this season. The Jayhawks are just 3-5 SU and 2-6 ATS in road games this season. Kansas just lost at Texas Tech this week by 29. Now, they head to Oklahoma where, historically, the Jayhawks have fared well. Kansas has won the last three against the Sooners in Oklahoma.

Kansas has lost its last two games on the road, but they have yet to lose consecutive games this season. This is too good a team to lose three of four. Expect the Jayhawks to be content playing at the slower pace of Oklahoma. The Sooners rank 204th in pace and have scored 66, 63, and 62 points in three of their last four.

Kansas averages 77 points a game, but they haven’t come close to that in their last three. Four of Oklahoma’s last five games have gone Under and six of the last eight in this series have done the same. This should be a low-scoring Big 12 Battle. UNDER (down to 141.5) – Bet Now at SportsBetting.ag

#22 KENTUCKY @ #13 AUBURN

Auburn is staking its claim to the SEC. They lost on the road to Florida, but rebounded with a complete annihilation of No. 11 South Carolina earlier this week. At home, the Tigers are virtually unbeatable. They are 13-0 SU at home this season and they are 9-4 ATS. Last year, they lost to the Wildcats on the road, but won at home by nine.

Kentucky has lost three of its last five games and is also 2-3 ATS in those games. The Wildcats are just 2-5 ATS in the last seven against Auburn and 1-5 ATS in the last six against the Tigers at Auburn. Auburn is fifth in the nation in scoring margin (+16.2). That margin is nearly six points higher at home (+22.1). Auburn wins big. AUBURN TO COVERBet Now at SportsBetting.ag

#24 FAU @ SOUTH FLORIDA

This Sunday’s game will play a big role in which Florida team wins the AAC regular season title. South Florida is 18-5 overall and 11-1 in conference play. The Bulls are in first place, a game ahead of FAU, which made last year’s Final Four. The Owls are 20-5 and 10-2 in the AAC.

FAU vs TempleFAU beat Temple on Thursday night. USF had an extra day of rest after beating Tulsa at home on Wednesday. The Bulls have won 10 straight and have their eyes on an NCAA tournament berth. South Florida is now 13-2 at home and 10-3-1 ATS in home games. The Bulls are 6-0-1 ATS in their last seven.

FAU is 4-3 SU on the road this year. More importantly, they are just 2-5 ATS in road games. They failed to cover in the win over Temple on Thursday, making the Owls 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games. FAU and all of its hype is likely to be a short favorite here. Expect the Owls to be a -2.5 favorite or shorter. That should make the price right on the Bulls on the moneyline.
