Writing on the Wall for Russell Wilson – Odds on Next Team Posted
The Denver Broncos are benching star QB Russel Wilson for the rest of the season. This is not being done because of poor play. In fact, in his last outing Wilson’s statline was good: 25-37 – 237 yards – 2 TD’s – 0 Int’s. The real reason they are benching him is to save money. Within Russell Wilson’s contract there is a clause that if he cannot pass a physical which is scheduled on the 5th day of the new league year, the Broncos owe him $37M in guaranteed money.
Wilson recently told ESPN: “They definitely told me I was going to be benched and all that. That whole bye week I didn’t know what was going to be the case, I was going to be ready to play, I wanted to go to Buffalo and beat Buffalo (Nov. 13). … I wasn’t going to remove the injury guarantee. This game is such a physical game, I’ve played 12 years and all that. I want to be able to play, I want to be able to help this team win. … I know every time I step on the field it’s a physical game. I never play timid, I never play scared.”
It seems pretty apparent that the Broncos are ready to move on. They signed Russell to a 5 years – $242.6M contract before the season started in 2022. Even though the Broncos have been pretty bad in the interim, Wilson’s numbers are good. This season his passing stat line looks like this: 66% completion percentage – 3070 yards – 26 TD’s – 8 INT’s
The Broncos will be starting Jarrett Stidham against the LA Chargers tomorrow. The Chargers are going through their own metamorphosis. They just fired their head coach after a seriously disappointing season. Their star QB is out and they have been starting a guy no one had heard of until a few weeks ago named Easton Stick. This QB and the Chargers are so bad that Denver is actually favored by 3.5 points at NFL Odds with Trevor Simien under center.
Broncos fans have to angry about these series of events. They are not eliminated from the playoffs and if they win out there is still hope of getting in. However, with Wilson missing from the lineup, chances of them winning out goes down. The organization agreed to the injury clause in the contract in 2022 and now they’ve seemingly changed their mind about it and the fans are the ones being punished.
With all of this being said, the writing is on the wall for Wilson. BetOnline.ag has issued betting odds on which team Russell Wilson will play for next. He still has some football in him it appears. And even though he is not in peak form, he is better than about half the QB’s that will start games tomorrow.
