Chicago Bears vs Detroit Lions Free Pick

Scott Morris | December 8, 2023
Bears vs Lions free pick

As the 2023 NFL season’s Week 14 approaches, the Detroit Lions, with quite a notable 9-3 record, prepare to face the Chicago Bears. It is a battle of the NFC North teams with the Lions at the very top and the Bears dead last.

The Bears, holding a 4-8 record, are looking to bounce back after their bye week, having previously secured a win against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 12.

The Lions are on a high from a closely contested victory over the New Orleans Saints in Week 13.

The Lions need to take advantage of this opportunity to maintain their winning momentum, while the Bears are focused on turning their season around.

Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions achieved a 9-3 record for the first time since 1962 after holding off a comeback from the New Orleans Saints, winning 33-28.

Rookie tight end Sam LaPorta was a standout performer for the Lions. He had an exceptional game, catching all nine passes thrown his way for 140 yards and a touchdown. LaPorta’s performance, which included breaking three tackles and averaging over 6.0 yards per route run, is setting him on course for one of the best rookie seasons for a tight end in NFL history. Quarterback Jared Goff also played a significant role, contributing to the team’s early lead.

Defensive end Bruce Irvin, a key addition for Detroit, made his presence felt in the game with a crucial sack. However, his roughing the passer penalty had a significant impact, leading to the exit of Saints quarterback Derek Carr.

They are doing quite well, maintaining their position at the very top and have no intention of stepping back anytime soon.

Chicago Bears

The Bears, in their last game before the bye week, showcased their offensive capabilities against the Vikings. In a closely contested game, the Chicago Bears secured a narrow 12-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings, despite not scoring a touchdown.

Throughout the game, the Bears struggled to capitalize on numerous errors by the Vikings. However, in the game’s final moments, quarterback Justin Fields connected with wide receiver D.J. Moore on a critical 36-yard pass, setting up a successful 30-yard field goal by placekicker Cairo Santos. Moore was a standout performer, making 11 catches on 13 targets for 114 yards and contributing significantly to the team’s first downs. His dynamic play resulted in substantial yardage gains, particularly after the catch, and passes to him have earned a high passer rating this season.

On defense, Bears cornerback Jaylon Johnson had a strong game in coverage, effectively limiting receptions and contributing to an interception.

The Bears may not be in the most favorable position at the moment but they are hoping to get a few wins on their record in the upcoming weeks.

Prediction for Week 14

Given the recent performances and the overall season trajectory of both teams, the matchup is expected to be quite competitive.

The Lions have shown a consistent ability to secure wins, even in close games, while the Bears have demonstrated a lot of improvement in their recent games.

However, the Lions’ offensive strength might give them an edge in this contest. Believe it or not, 75% of the tickets and money are coming in on the Bears so the public are expecting big things. However, SBA has tracked some sharp action on the Lions. BetUS.com currently has this game at Det -3.5 and we are thinking Detroit is the play at -3 or better here.
