As it Turns Out – The Miami Dolphins Were Just a Mediocre Team All Along

Scott Morris | November 6, 2023
TUa fumbles the snap

Yesterday proved what many die-hard Miami Dolphins fans knew all along, that the team cannot win against good teams. All of Miami’s wins have come against bad team and all of their losses have come against teams which have a winning record. Therefore, it’s safe to assume that the Dolphins themselves fall in between being bad and being good. Another word for this would be calling them “mediocre”.

The game was a disaster from almost every angle in the first half. The offense was totally neutered and the defense wasn’t much better, although they did manage a few stops on 3rd down. The second half was just promising enough to deliver some hope for Dolphins fans and betting backers, but it was too little, too late. The defense held the Chiefs to 0 points in the second half but the offense behind QB Tua Tagovailoa looked like bumbling idiots when it mattered most. The result was the Chiefs covered the -2 points spread and the total stayed well under.

NFL Power Rankings

Miami was rated as high as #2 overall on the NFL’s power poll earlier this season. This week they drop to #8 on Yahoo’s NFL Power Rankings. I’m not even sure they deserve to be that high. Look at the teams directly behind them. You have Dallas, Cleveland, Buffalo and Pittsburgh. Can they beat those teams? Well, they already lost to Buffalo. Cleveland has found its rhythm with Deshaun Watson it looks like. And Dallas would definitely beat Miami in Dallas. I think Miami could defeat Pittsburgh in Miami but would have trouble in the Steel City.

Bye Week

Mike McDaniels vs KC ChiefsThis week they get to sit around campus and lick their wounds. Head Coach Mike McDaniel will think the problem is in offensive schemes and go to work drawing up new plays on the white board. But that ain’t the problem. The team cannot handle simple tasks like snapping the ball. The team had ten penalties in their loss at Philadelphia. This is a team that lacks discipline plain and simple.

McDaniels needs to hire a henchman or become one himself and start threatening guys on the line to do their job better. Snap the ball better. Give Tua another second to throw. Block better. Stop holding when the play isn’t even coming your direction. They need to start fearing for their starting jobs.

In summary, the Miami Dolphins are talented and on paper have many Pro-Bowlers. They run great schemes and have explosive talent. But they are undisciplined and cannot get out of their own way. The offensive line cannot block well enough against good teams to allow the playmakers to make plays. The offensive line has been an issue in Miami for more than two decades. They simply cannot seem to get a solid line together.
