Updated Heisman Odds and Analysis
The Heisman Trophy ceremony usually includes the top four or five rated candidates. The TV network then reviews each player’s resume’ and then finally a winner is announced. It’s a pretty big deal in college football. Some would say it is the second most important trophy besides the national championship trophy.
Quarterbacks usually make up most of the pool of candidates. This is because the QB is the lynchpin of the team. He takes almost every snap on offense and is involved in scoring most of the points. In years past you would see more running backs than you see today because the game was more run-focused. Today, in the era of “spread attack” the QB is the man.
This year looks to be no different. The top five Heisman candidates are QB’s. There have been three weeks of college football, although most teams have only played two games. After those three weeks there is little doubt who the front-runner is.
The Top Candidates
Caleb William’s USC Trojans are 2-0. He has thrown for 878 yards and 8 TDs. He has 0 interceptions. They pulled him from the Stanford game on Saturday because it was a total blowout. Williams is the odd-on favorite at this moment to win the trophy at +400 odds at SportsBetting.ag
Not far behind Williams is FSU QB Jordan Travis. This young man has really put on a show. He started a little slow in week one against LSU but after he got warmed up it was light out. He has taken his FSU Seminoles from #8 in the nation to #3 in just two games after beating #4LSU and then decimating Southern Miss this past weekend. He has throw for 517 yards, 6TD’s and just 1 INT. He is currently +500 odds.
Texas QB Quin Ewers is a new man this season. He dropped 20 pounds of extra weight in the offseason and is hyper-focused in 2023. This was evidenced by Texas rolling into Tuscaloosa and getting a huge win against #3 Alabama. Texas jumped from #10 to #4 with that win and their QB has 609 yards and 6 TD’s with 0 INT’s on the season. His odds to win the Heisman are +800.
Upset Pick
The trophy will most likely go to one of those three guys mentioned above. However, the underdog story of the year is taking place out in Colorado. Deion Sanders’ son Sheduer Sanders is the QB for the team Deion coaches (U of Colorado). They went to TCU and shocked the Horned Frogs in week 1 and then smashed Nebraska this past weekend. Sanders has passed for 903 yards and 6 TD’s. Colorado started the season unranked and is now #21 in the top 25 poll.
