The 8 Teams That Can Win Super Bowl LVIII

Scott Morris | September 6, 2023
Joe Burrow of the Bengals

The last five Super Bowl winners all won at least 11 regular season games. They averaged 12 wins, but more importantly, the last five Super Bowl champions were third, fourth, third, second, and first on the preseason Super Bowl odds board. Each of the five were listed at +1200 or shorter to start the season at online sportsbooks

Week 1 of the 2023 NFL season starts Thursday when the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs take on the Detroit Lions. A lot can happen in the months to come, but right now there are eight teams primed to win Super Bowl LVIII. They are all given +1800 odds or better and history says it will be one of them that captures the Lombardi Trophy.

Repeat?

The Chiefs are the favorite to win again. They have two Super Bowl wins in the last four seasons. QB Patrick Mahomes, TE Travis Kelce, and head coach Andy Reid are big reasons why the Chiefs could take the title again. The issue? No team has repeated as NFL champion since the Patriots did it back in 2004 and 2005. The Chiefs are listed at +600.

Fly Eagles Fly

Jalen Hurts and a dominant running game return as does a pretty solid Philadelphia defense. Last year’s runner-up is also second on the board at +700 to win it all this time around. The problem for Philly will be replacing both their offensive and defensive coordinators.

Time to Pay the Bills

Buffalo has been extremely good over the past several years. QB Josh Allen has emerged as one of the best in the league and he is surrounded by talent. Allen looked like the NFL MVP at midseason. Then, he got hurt. The Bills fizzled; plus they were a bundle of emotion after the Damar Hamlin injury. The Bills (+900) are the only other NFL team given better than +1000 odds to win Super Bowl LVIII. If they don’t fade down the stretch, Buffalo could win its first-ever title.

49ers Strike Gold

Brock Purdy is healthy and he’s got tons of weapons. Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk. Head coach Kyle Shanahan will have a field day on opposing defenses. Then, he’s got a pretty good defense of his own. Nick Bosa terrorizes opposing quarterbacks. The key for the Niners is just to stay healthy. They had major injuries last season that ruined what could have been. The Niners head into this season as a +1000 Super Bowl contender at BetOnline sportsbook.

No Burrow Early, No Problem

QB Joe Burrow might not play early in the season depending upon the severity of a training camp calf injury. But, he’ll eventually make it back. Burrow has the best trio of wide receivers – Ja’Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Tyler Boyd – in the NFL. The defense is improved, but the big stepping stone is the Chiefs. Kansas City beat Cincy in the regular season and in the AFC title game last year. The Bengals are also listed at +1000 to win it all in 2023.

Winning by Losing in Dallas

The Cowboys let RB Ezekiel Elliott go in free agency. They also parted ways with offensive coordinator Kellen Moore (now with the Chargers). Dak Prescott is the kind of quarterback that could have an MVP-type season with CeeDee Lamb and Brandin Cooks as top targets. The running game will be fine with Tony Pollard and LB Micah Parsons is a future Hall of Famer. Dallas really hasn’t been relevant in a long time. They’re given +1400 odds to win the Super Bowl though. Is this the year?

Ravens Run to Title

QB Lamar Jackson is back and healthy. The Ravens have a new offensive coordinator in Todd Monken who will do what Baltimore does best – run the football. JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards are back and the receiving group is strong with the addition of Odell Beckham Jr. The Ravens are always strong on defense under head coach John Harbaugh. That’s why they are a +1800 Super Bowl contender. They do, however, have to contend with the AFC’s toughest division.

Jets Finally Have a Shot

After years of being the laughingstock of the AFC East, the New York Jets have slowly built a winner. Head coach Robert Saleh has built a roster that can win. The Jets started 7-4 last year but dropped their final six games of the season. The addition of Aaron Rodgers is the biggest contributing factor to the Jets being a +1600 contender to win Super Bowl LVIII. Without the future Hall of Famer, the Jets are not in this discussion.

There you have it. Eight teams that fit the mold to become the Super Bowl LVIII champions. Every other team in the NFL is given +2200 odds or higher. There’s a reason. It’s because they aren’t built to win at least 11 games in the regular season or a Super Bowl in 2023.
