2023 Atlanta Falcons Preview and Futures Odds
The Atlanta Falcons did a lot better than people expected but it still wasn’t enough. Seven wins from the team, including beating the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks, weren’t nearly enough for them to make it to the playoffs. Their not-so-exciting wins didn’t benefit them as they ended the season with a 7-10 record. The only good thing going for them was their great offense, managing to score 25 points per game in just the first eight weeks, but that too stopped working in the second half of the season. Their defense wasn’t very good either. Quarterback Marcus Mariota failed to help the team and Desmond Ridder took over in the second half.
There isn’t a lot of hope that the Falcons will make it to the playoffs in 2023 considering the fact that they only have Ridder to rely on. The team is uncertain about its future as of now and fans are hoping this season is an opportunity to surprise some people.
This offseason, the team’s aim was to rebuild. With the departure of Mariota, the team had a lot of salary cap space left to change and adjust their roster. They made the decision of re-signing most key players instead of bringing in new ones. Nevertheless, the roster for 2023 will be quite different from last year.
New Players
The Falcons took advantage of their cap space in free agency and brought in strong players on defense. Their best one was top ranked safety, Jessie Bates III. They also majorly upgraded their interior defensive line with the addition of Eddie Goldman, David Onvemata and Calais Campbell. All three are great at what they do, even Campbell at the age of 37.
In the 2023 NFL Draft, a surprising move from the team was picking running back Bijan Robinson. He may not be the best but will surely make an impact. Another similar pick was from Round 3, Zach Harrison. Apart from this, the best move of the offseason was drafting Matthew Bergeron in Round 2. He will start out as left guard but he is predicted to have a very bright future with the Falcons. Overall, the team didn’t do really bad at rebuilding but the question is if it is enough to play better in the upcoming season.
There isn’t much hope for the Atlanta Falcons in the Super Bowl hunt but they have a shot in the weak NFC South. They refused to bring in Lamar Jackson who would’ve been the best addition. Instead they decided to put all their faith in Desmond Ridder and he must do everything in his power to lead the team towards victory. Fans are eager to see what the upcoming season has in store for the Falcons.
