2023 Raiders Preview and Futures Odds
Expectations were high for the Las Vegas Raiders in the 2022 season but they failed by a mile. With only six wins and seventh overall pick in the draft, it was a lot more than just disappointing for the fans.
They played poorly throughout the season blowing more halftime touchdown leads than any other team. Their wins against the Los Angeles Chargers against Seattle Seahawks were good but still not their best. Their record was one of the worst in the NFL, only above the Colts. Their offense was far better than their defense, showing exactly where most of the coaching staff’s attention had been. But even the many great players on offense couldn’t make up for the team’s weaknesses. They produced close games against top teams, like the Chiefs and the 49ers, but ended up losing, and a loss is a loss.
Offseason
The 2022 season was a poor one and they headed into the offseason with the aim to change that. They made a few big changes around the team hoping to turn their future around and it’ll be a letdown if they produce the same results as before. Changes in mostly the roster and not much in the coaching staff shows that they are of the view that the personnel are lacking and not the leadership.
The big decision they made was deciding to trade their long time Quarterback Derek Carr to the Saints and get their hands on Jimmy Garoppolo, a greatly anticipated addition to the roster. Not only did they bring in receiver Jakobi Meyers, they also decided to take the opportunity and re-sign both Jermaine Eluemunor and Josh Jacobs for the season.
The Raiders got lucky in the 2023 NFL draft when they managed to pick a very valuable edge defender, Tyree Wilson. This only happened because of his foot injury which did not let him get selected as high as No.2 or No. 3 overall. Their seventh pick didn’t turn out so bad for them after all. This may have been their best move this offseason.
Another interesting move was the team picking Byron Young in the draft when they had planned to re-sign Jerry Tillery as well. It will be quite exciting what both of them bring to the field and who succeeds at coming out on top.
Rankings have the Las Vegas Raiders at 26th which doesn’t say much but there is no doubt that the Las Vegas Raiders are going into the season with a remarkably talented roster. They didn’t work much on their secondary and a lot is still left to be done but, for now, all they need to do is make sure each and every player puts his best foot forward. They aim to secure a spot in the playoffs and they have made all the changes they required to accomplish that. The Raiders may surprise a few pundits this year but the surprise won’t be big enough to get them into the playoffs. Take OVER the 6.5 wins but stay away from all of the other futures listed below. This team will take some time to get it together and are at least a year or two from playoff caliber.
