Tampa Bay Bucs Past Present and Future

Bucs past present and future

Tampa Bay Buccaneers have won Super Bowl titles, the most recent one coming in 2021 which was also Tom Brady’s last title before he retired in 2023. They have already achieved more this decade than they did last decade as they are on a consecutive three-season playoff run. Let’s look at some of their previous years.

17/18 season

Tampa’s 17/18 season was bad as they won only five games and lost eleven. Their season started with a win over the Chicago Bears, they won 29-7. But later their form became worse and worse and did not qualify for playoffs. They finished fourth in the NFC South. This was their tenth consecutive season without a playoff appearance.

18/19 season

Next season, they started great as they won the first two games against the New Orleans Saints and the defending champions Philadelphia Eagles. The quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick put in a great shift in both matches but Buccaneers failed to capitalize on their great start to the season and again finished with a record of 5-11. Dirk Koetter was also fired as he failed again just like the previous two seasons. For the new season, Tampa also needed a new coach.

19/20 season

In the 2019 season, Buccaneers did improve from their previous record as they won seven games and finished third in the NFC South. They had an unbeaten streak from November 25th to December 15th, winning four games in a row but still missed the playoffs. They became one of the two teams to not qualify for playoffs for the entire 2010s decade, the other was the Cleveland Browns. Their quarterback, Jameis Winston did not resign with them, and it was his last season with the Buccaneers.

Tom Brady and the title-winning season

In the 2020 offseason, Buccaneers signed Tom Brady, which would be his first season in a jersey that was not New England Patriots. They improved a lot as they finished with an 11-5 record and qualified for the playoffs. This was their first playoff appearance since the 2007 season. First, they faced Washington and won 31-23, and then in the divisional playoffs. It was a match against the Saints. The Saints had swept them in the regular season so they were coming in as favorites. Still, the Buccaneers won 30-20 against the Saints and knocked them out of the playoffs. Tampa won the NFC championship against the Green Bay Packers and in the Super Bowl game, they faced the Kansas City Chiefs which the Buccaneers won comfortably 31-9. They won their second Super Bowl title and had to get Tom Brady to do that. This further cemented Brady’s legacy as one of the greats of the game as he won the ring joining a new team.

21/22 season

Next season they were looking to win back-to-back and finished with an improved record in the regular season as they won a franchise record thirteen games. In the wild card rounds, they faced the Eagles and won 31-15 but in the next round lost to the Rams so their dream to go back-to-back was over. After Brady decided to retire

Tom Brady’s retirement season

After forty days Brady decided to reverse his decision to play one last season with the Buccaneers. They finished first in the NFC South and qualified for the playoffs but were eliminated in the wild cards as they lost to the Dallas Cowboys. After that season Brady decided to retire for good and ended his illustrious career.

2023 Upcoming Season

The QB for the Bucs appears to be Baker Mayfield. The still young QB appeared to be on his way out of the league before the Rams gave him the reigns in LA when Matt Stafford got hurt. The knock on Mayfield isn’t that he has a week arm or isn’t competitive. The knock is that he cannot read defenses very well and that he fails to recognize when a receiver is open. QB Kyle Trask (U. of FL.) is listed as the backup (pictured above).
