Recap of New Orleans Saints Last Several Years

Scott Morris | May 23, 2023
Bucs recap 2017 -2033

In 2010, New Orleans Saints won their only Super Bowl as they won against Indianapolis Colts 31-17. In the last two seasons, they have not qualified for the playoffs and their fans would be disappointed. Before that, the Saints were qualifying for playoffs regularly but were losing the playoffs and failed to win a championship during those seasons.

17/18 season

We will start from the 17/18 season as this was the time they qualified for playoffs for the first time since the 2013 season. They had a record of 11-5 and defeated Carolina Panther in the wildcard round 31-26. In the divisional round, it was a match against the Minnesota Vikings. It was an amazing game of football for the neutral fans and Vikings fans but not so much for the Saints fans. Saints came back from a score of 17-0 and had taken the lead 24-23 with few seconds left. The Vikings scored a last-second touchdown that knocked out the Saints. Marcus Williams was the one that missed a crucial tackle and was bashed by the Saint’s fans. Tom Benson also died that season at the age of ninety. So they needed a new owner.

18/19 season

Gayle Benson became the new owner of the Saints. They improved to a record of 13-3 and it gave them home advantage throughout the playoffs. As they skipped the wildcard round, they directly qualified in the wildcard round and faced Philadelphia Eagles who were the defending champions. The Saints won 20-14 against them and moved on to face the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC championship. The Rams won 26-23 and the Saints who were the title favorites were knocked out again as their title hopes were over.

19/20 season

The Saints qualified again with a record of 13-3 but could not get the bye in the first round of playoffs. Anyways, they came up against the Minnesota Vikings in the divisional round and the Vikings won again with the score of 26-20 in the overtime. The Saints again bottled in the playoffs, and it was becoming very frustrating.

20/21 season

Saint’s 2020/21 season ended with a 12-4 record. It was worse than the previous season but still very good. They faced the Chicago Bears in the wildcard rounds and won against them 21-9. Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they lost, and Tampa later won the Super Bowl.

2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons

This was the last time they qualified for the playoffs, as they failed to qualify in the next two seasons. They had a record of 9-8 and even worse the next season which was 7-10. Saints and their fans will feel that not winning the title when they qualified for playoffs four times consecutively is a lost opportunity.

A look into the upcoming season

In the 2023 season, the Saints can go to the playoffs as other teams in their division are having quarterback problems (see Bucs). So, if they can take advantage of that they will surely qualify for the postseason.

Derrick Carr is the new QB in N.O. and he is expected to make an immediate impact. See Saints depth chart here.

The Saints are favored to win the division at +125 odds.

Their odds to win the Super Bowl are +5000 at BetOnline.ag
