2022 Florida State Football Preview

Scott Morris | July 30, 2022
FSU season preview 2022

Seminole football is not what it once was. Under the leadership of Bobby Bowden, FSU was a perennial powerhouse. Now they are mediocre and even lost to an FCS team last season. Is Florida State righting the ship or are they doomed to be mediocre for the foreseeable future?

Coaching

Head coach Mike Norvell is in his third season helming the team. He is 8-13 overall. Last season the Seminoles were 5-7 and 4-4 in-conference. Their biggest wins were at UNC & BC and home vs. Miami. It should be noted that their losses include some really close ones. They lost to #8 Notre Dame and Florida by a FG.

Players

The ‘Noles return only four starters on offense. And all of these starters are on the offensive line. So, at minimum the ground game should be effective in 2022.

At QB, FSU has Travis Jordan, a player who got some good playing time in last season. He has a pretty good stat line with 15 TD’s and only 6 picks.

FSU is expecting big things from Oregon transfer red shirt freshman RB Trey Benson. He was a standout high school star and with the size and speed he has, is looking to rush for over 1,000 in 2022.

The Seminoles will be looking to improve on their sixth place finish in defense in the ACC from 2021. They are returning quite a number of players so they expect the defense to be somewhat better this year. For an in-depth look at defensive players click here

2022 FSU Football Schedule

Week 0: Saturday, August 27 – vs. Duquesne (season-opener) – Should be an easy win for the ‘Noles.

Week 1: Sunday, September 4 – vs. LSU (neutral game in New Orleans) – LSU under new head coach Brian Kelly is looking to be top-notch again soon. LSU is ranked #10 pre-season and should be able to defeat this FSU squad by a score.

Week 2: Saturday, September 10 – BYE week

Week 3: Friday, September 16 – at Louisville – Louisville is about on par with FSU and this game is really either of theirs for the taking. If FSU is getting 4 or more I would take FSU.

Week 4: Saturday, September 24 – vs. Boston College – Again, another mediocre ACC team. The home advantage should be all that matters here. Take the ‘Noles.

Week 5: Saturday, October 1 – vs. Wake Forest – Wake has been building a decent program but this game will present a challenge for them. Take the ‘Noles at home.

Week 6: Saturday, October 8 – at North Carolina State – N.C State should be able to win convincingly over the younger and inexperienced Seminoles.

Week 7: Saturday, October 15 – vs. Clemson – Having Clemson at home is an advantage for sure. But it won’t be enough to overcome the superior players and coaching of the Tigers.

Week 8: Saturday, October 22 – BYE week

Week 9: Saturday, October 29 – vs. Georgia Tech – This should be a slug-fest. One in which FSU can definitely win.

Week 10: Saturday, November 5 – at Miami – FSU will be slight underdogs in this one and the game may come down to the last play.

Week 11: Saturday, November 12 – at Syracuse – The ‘Cuse haven’t really been very good in recent years. But they are at home and its late in the season. Flip a coin to pick the winner of this one.

Week 12: Saturday, November 19 – vs. Louisiana-Layfayette – This opponent was very good last year and finished with a 13-1 record overall. But this is because they played second-tier FBS teams. They lost against the only real upper-echelon team they played vs Texas 38-18. Look for FSU to get the win.

Week 13: Friday, November 25 – vs. Florida (regular-season finale) – In-state rivalries are always big. And even better, its the last game of the season. The Gators are under a new coaching regime but return some really good players. We like FSU to win this one even if they are slight underdogs.

Conclusion and Bet Predictions

The total wins listed for the FSU Seminoles for 2022 is 7.5 wins. We think the Under is the play here. There are simply too many question marks and FSU is playing against equal or superior talent in at least half of their games.

The Seminoles odds to win the national title are +15000 at BetOnline.ag . This means if you risk $100 and they win the title, you win $15K! If you think that they ahve a shot to win it all then go for it.
