2022 Texas Longhorns Preview

Scott Morris | July 25, 2022
Sarkisian leads the 2022 Longhorns

Let’s take a deeper dive into one of college football’s more stories programs and see how things may shake out in the 2022 season. We will look at the key returning players, upcoming schedule and other items relating directly to the 2022 Texas Longhorns season.

2021 was not a good year for the Longhorns. They went just 3-6 in the Big 12 and 5-7 overall. Things started well enough for Texas as they opened 4-1 with wins vs. #23 Louisiana, Texas Tech and at TCU. They then dropped six of their last seven games.

Texas Coaching

HC Steve Sarkisian is looking to right the ship and many of the Texas faithful are optimistic. You have to break some eggs to make an omelet as the old saying goes. They are hoping 2021 was the end of the “egg-breaking” portion.

Steve was able to get the biggest name coming out of high school football next year (2023) to commit early. Arch Manning, high school’s #1 recruit prospect and nephew to Eli and Peyton Manning, has committed early to the Longhorn program. The news is so exciting for Longhorn fans that you can actually bet if Arch will start in his rookie season or not at BetUS.com

Texas Starting QB Game 1 in 2023

Quinn Ewers -200
Arch Manning +150

Quinn Ewers is a Ohio State transfer that is more likely to get the nod as he has more college playing experience under his belt and will most likely start this season.

Texas Longhorn Starting Players 2022

At QB we have the aforementioned Quinn Ewers. The kid is a question mark at this level as he has only taken two college snaps. His high school stats were pretty phenomenal and he has decent size at 6’2″ and 205 lbs.

Texas starting running backLook for Texas to return to more of a rough and tumble ground game as they look to hand the ball off to Heisman hopeful RB Nijan Robinson. This young man is stout and rushed for 1100+ yards last season. He is +1600 odds to win the Heisman Trophy in 2022.

Defense is loaded with returning players and upperclassmen. The Longhorns will be starting 7 seniors and 4 juniors on defense. If this defense can create turnovers and keep the opposing offense off the field, the Longhorns offense may just be good enough to win games against good teams.

2022 Texas Longhorn Schedule and Prediction

Week 1, Sept. 3 vs. UL Monroe – Texas is -39 points at SBA Odds

Week 2, Sept. 10 vs. Alabama – Alabama will be heavily favored.

Week 3, Sept. 17 vs. UTSA – Texas should win this game.

Week 4, Sept. 24 at Texas Tech – Texas can win this game.

Week 5, Oct. 1 vs. West Virginia – Texas can win this game.

Week 6, Oct. 8 vs. Oklahoma – This will be a tough challenge. It might be closer than the experts think but Texas will probably drop this one.

Week 7, Oct. 15 vs. Iowa State – Game may be a Pick em’

Week 8, Oct. 22 at Oklahoma State – This will be a tough game on the road. Texas will probably drop this one.

Week 9, Oct. 29 Idle

Week 10, Nov. 5 at Kansas State – Texas can squeak out a win here.

Week 11, Nov. 12 vs. TCU – Look for Texas to get it together and pull out a victory.

Week 12, Nov. 19 at Kansas – Should be a good and easy win against a team with a 2.5 game win total over/under.

Week 13, Nov. 26 vs. Baylor – Baylor is always tough. The game is at home which should play to Texas’s advantage of course. But Baylor will probably get the win here.

Conclusion

We can see Texas battling hard on the gird iron and rushing the ball for 2,000 yards. The defense will definitely keep this team competitive but the inexperience at QB and lack of depth on offense will be an issue. Still, we see Texas finishing with a winning record of 7-5.

The Texas season wins over/under is 8.5 wins so it is probably a good wager to take the under at that number.

You can bet Texas to win the national championship at BetOnline.ag at +6600 odds. A hundred bucks wins you a cool $6,600 if Texas is able to pull off the big win.
