Why the Packers Will Win the Super Bowl This Year

Scott Morris | December 13, 2021

Yes, the Super Bowl LVI champion this year will have “Bay” in its name. It just won’t be Tampa Bay. It will be Green Bay.

That’s right. This year’s Super Bowl champion will be the Green Bay Packers and there are a number of reasons why. It all starts with the most important position in all of sports – quarterback.  The Packers have a pretty good one.

Aaron Rodgers

He is the reigning NFL MVP and he’s enjoying another stellar season in 2021. Rodgers has been magnificent this season completing 67.3 percent of his passes for 3,219 yards and 27 touchdowns. He’s on pace for a 4,500-yards-plus and 38-touchdown season. More importantly, he’s led Green Bay to a 10-3 record.

Rodgers missed a game, which the Packers lost, due to COVID. He returned and wasn’t all that great but good enough to beat Seattle 17-0. For his career, he’s 138-69-1. He is one of the best to ever play the game and Rodgers is the No. 1 reason why the Packers win it all this year. And, don’t forget, Rodgers has been playing on a toe that eventually needs surgery.

Defense

When Rodgers was out, the Packers defense simply stepped up and shut out Seattle 17-0. Green Bay held the Chiefs to just 13 points and, for the season, the Packers are seventh in scoring defense allowing just 20.9 points per game.

The Packers rank ninth against the pass (218.5 ypg) and against the run (105.2 ypg) making them sixth overall in total defense (323.6 ypg) in the NFL. The bottom line is that the Green Bay defense does enough to keep the Packers in games. Green Bay is 11-2 ATS this season. That leads the NFL and Aaron Rodgers and an outstanding Packers defense are the reasons why.

Coaching

Coach Matt Lafeur will lead the Pack to the Super Bowl

Coach Matt Lafleur is 38-11 as Packer Head Coach

There has been a tremendous amount of praise for the hire of Sean McVay in Los Angeles as well as that of Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco. One of Shanahan’s buddies, Matt LaFleur, ended up getting the head coaching job in Green Bay. All he has done since is win.

LaFleur is 36-9 overall with back-to-back 13-3 seasons to begin his career. Green Bay is 10-3 right now with four games to play. The Packers have reached the NFC championship game in each of LaFleur’s first two seasons. That experience plus Rodgers and a top ten defense give Green Bay exactly what it needs to win Super Bowl LVI.

Depth

At some point in each season, NFL teams deal with injury. The Packers have had their share. LB Za’Darius Smith and CB Jaire Alexander have been on injured reserve since early in the season. Players like Rashan Gary, Jonathan Garvin, Eric Stokes and Kevin King have picked up the slack.

When RB Aaron Jones went down, A.J. Dillon stepped in and the Packers didn’t miss a beat. OT David Bakhtiari has missed time and Green Bay recently lost Elgton Jenkins to a season-ending injury. It hasn’t mattered because the Packers have a roster full of talent at nearly every single position.

During last night’s beatdown of Chicago, the Packers played with a patchwork of an offensive line. Starters are hurt or dinged up and some are rookies. The protection was good and they were able to move the ball rushing as well. In the not too distant future the offensive line will be healed up and gel even more as a unit. This will make the Packer offense truly the best in the NFL.

That roster, which includes QB Aaron Rodgers and a top ten defense all built by head coach Matt LaFleur and his staff, is why Green Bay is headed not only to another NFC title game, but also to another Super Bowl championship. Those factors are also why Sportsbook Advisor backs Green Bay to bring home another Lombardi Trophy.

Post Season Look

We can definitely see the Pack having to play the Bucs again in the playoffs. This time they will win. And if they face the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, which we think they will, we think the Pack will prevail here as well.
