Trevor Lawrence Out with Covid – Point Spread Tumbles
Late Thursday night it was revealed that Trevor Lawrence, Clemson’s starting QB and the overall favorite to win the Heisman trophy, tested positive for Covid. The point spread was immediately taken off the board.
Coach Dabo Sweeney posted “Trevor has authorized us this evening to announce that he has tested positive for COVID-19 and is now in isolation. He is doing well with mild symptoms but will not be available for this week’s game against Boston College. While we certainly will miss Trevor, this is an opportunity for other guys to step up and we’re excited about competing against a very good BC team on Saturday. Go Tigers.”
The Tigers are 6-0 heading into their game with Boston College. Lawrence has thrown for 17 TD’s and just 2 INTs this season. Backup QB D.J. UIAGALELEI will get the start in Lawrence’s place. He has had some work this season, coming in for mop-up duty in a few blowouts. He is 12-19 and 101 yards passing with no TDs and no Int’s. He does have two rushing TD’s on 8 carries.
The initial line had Clemson favored by 31.5 points. It started tumbling at about 8:30 EST on Thursday night. It came all the way down to -21.5 before settling in at -24. However, many sportsbooks don’t have it on the board. They will get that line back up later today.
Boston College is 4-2 straight up and 4-2 ATS. They have a winning record by the skin of their teeth, as the saying goes. They beat Texas State by a FG. They beat Pitt by one point. And they beat up on a terrible GT team. They were manhandled by Virginia Tech 40-14. The probability that they win or even cover against the Clemson backup isn’t very good. The rest of the team will be playing inspired football in Trevor Lawrence’s behalf.
