Thursday night at 8:20 pm EST on NBC, the 2020 Kansas City Chiefs will host the Houston Texans. This is the first NFL action we have seen all year as the pre-season schedule was cancelled because of the coronavirus.
The point spread for this game is KC -9 points and the total rests at 54.5 points at most online sportsbooks. As you are probably aware, the KC Chiefs are the current reigning Super Bowl champs. They defeated the SF 49ers in come from behind fashion and proved that the offensive firepower generated by Patrick Mahomes and company is no one-trick pony. If you recall they came back from a large deficit against these Houston Texans in round two of the playoffs last year.
The highlight of the Texans’ offseason was them parting ways with All-Pro Andre Hopkins. They also lost Lamar Miller at RB. The team seems to be trending downward. They did make some decent offseason additions however. But, will they be enough to make up for the tremendous losses? Time will tell.
The Chiefs have their Super Bowl team intact. They are ranked #1 on the ESPN’s NFL football power index. And rightly so. The offense seems to be able to overcome any deficit and any obstacle that stands in its way.

The Chiefs and the Texans have some history. They have played ten times in the last fifteen years. But in recent years the advantage has been all KC. They are 5-2 straight up and 4-2 against the spread against the Texans in recent outings. The total has gone Over 4 of the last 6 contests between these two teams. But for Houston, the total has been Under 4 of the last 5 games they have played on the road.
Houston beat KC less than a year ago, so it can be done. This was a big win for the Texans. Can they do it again Thursday Night?

I don’t think Houston can beat Kansas City on Thursday. The Texans team seems gutted and ready for a let-down of a season. There is dissension in the ranks and I think HC Bill O’Brien’s time is limited. I am predicting a mutiny. And even though there is usually a hangover period for the Super Bowl champion from the year previous, I don’t necessarily count on that being the case here. KC is young, talented and very hungry. I am taking the Chiefs minus the points. You can bet this pick at one of the top sportsbooks found online.
