NFL Free Pick: Chiefs vs Patriots

Scott Morris | October 14, 2018

Sunday Night Football during Week 6 of the NFL features the Kansas City Chiefs putting their undefeated record on the line when they travel to play the New England Patriots.

The current line on top sportsbooks has New England favored by 3.5 points with the over/under point total on 60.

This game features Patriots quarterback Tom Brady who has won five Super Bowl titles and three NFL MVP awards opposing Patrick Mahomes a second year quarterback with the Chiefs who is off to record breaking start to his first season as a starter.

Mahomes is leading the NFL in touchdown passes with 14 as Kansas City is off to a 5-0 start. New England head coach Bill Belichick said Mahomes gets the ball to his receivers quickly, has a quick release, sees things very quickly, is able to extend plays, has a strong arm and can throw the deep ball.

Last week the Chief defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 30-14, but Mahomes did not throw a touchdown pass for the first time this season, while throwing his first two interceptions.

Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce leads the team in receptions with 28 and three TDs. Tyreek Hill has 27 receptions with three touchdowns. Running back Kareem Hunt has rushed for four touchdowns the past three games and last season rushed for 148 yards against the Patriots in a 42-27 Chiefs victory over the New England.

The Chiefs defense allows 461.5 yards per game, which is last in the NFL.

New England has won its last two after starting the season 1-2. Last week, the Patriots behind 341 yards passing and three touchdowns by Brady defeated Indianapolis. Brady became just the third NFL quarterback to throw for 500 career touchdown passes.

Following consecutive losses to the Jaguars and Lions, New England bounced back offensively by scoring 38 points in victories against the Dolphins and Colts. Julian Edelman returned last week from a four-game suspension to catch seven passes for 57 yards.

Josh Gordon debuted for New England with two catches for 50 yards including a touchdown. Running back Sony Michel has rushed for a combined 210 yards the last two games scoring once in each game.

The New England defense is average this season against both the run and pass, but is No. 30 in the league in quarterback sacks with just 7.0.

Prediction: The game will be an offensive battle with plenty of points put up on the scoreboard by both teams and a late turnover deciding the outcome. Take the home field advantage and the Patriots less the points to cover 34-27
