Delaware Sportsbooks Open for Business
As we mentioned would be probable in last week’s article DELAWARE FIRST NEW SPORTS BETTING STATE? , Delaware has indeed opened sports betting at three locations today. The governor of the state was there to place the first legal sports bet. Governor John Carney bet the Phillies (odds somewhere around +190) for $10. [SBA sports betting odds can be found here.]
The three locations that started accepting bets today are Dover Downs, Delaware Park and Harrington Raceway. Single game betting is being offered on NBA, MLB, NFL and World Cup today and very soon they will offer NCAA Football, NHL, golf and a variety of other sports.
The bet limits are $1000 per bet. The bettor can then apply for approval to bet more on the same game if they so choose.
The sports betting program is being handled by William Hill, a longtime UK based bookie.
Delaware is hoping this new venture will churn out plenty revenue for the state. Even though the state population is under 1 million people, it is surrounded by large population centers. The people in the surrounding areas will have only a short distance to travel to get to Delaware’s sports betting locations. The governor’s bet on the Philadelphia Phillies today is like a wink to the folks in Philly saying Delaware sports betting is open for business.
