Three College Football Rivalries for Friday

Scott Morris | November 24, 2017

Thanksgiving weekend is always full of big college rivalries and that includes the two days following Turkey Day, as the NFL steps aside until Sunday and college football takes center stage Friday and Saturday. Here is a look at three Friday College Football rivalries.

Texas Tech vs Texas

One is a battle in Texas when the Texas Tech Red Raiders visit the Texas Longhorns. The Longhorns are coming off a big win at West Virginia.

Texas is favored by 7 points and is 3-0 straight up and 2-1 against the spread in their last three games favored by 10 points or more. Texas is 7-2-1 ATS in its last 10 games overall and 3-1-1 ATS in its last 5 versus Big 12 opponents.

Texas Tech is 1-5 ATS in its last six Big 12 games, 1-5 ATS in its last six games overall and 0-4 ATS in its last four games versus opponents with a record above .500.

The visiting team in this matchup is 4-1 SU in the last five meetings, but Texas Tech is a very poor 1-6 ATS in the last 7 games in versus the Longhorns.

Pick: Longhorns to cover

Virginia Tech vs Virginia

The Virginia Tech Hokies visit the Virginia Cavaliers in a battle for bragging rights in the state. The Friday night kickoff has the Hokies as 7-point chalk.

The Hokies are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games against ACC opponents as well as in their last 7 games overall. On the road, Virginia Tech is a dismal 2-6 ATS in its last 8 away from home.

Virginia is 5-1 ATS in its last six games versus a team with a record above .500, but 2-5 ATS in its last seven games played during November.

Virginia Tech is 3-0 SU in the last three head to head matchups with Virginia, with a blowout win of 52-10 last season, but winning by just 3 points in 2015, and winning 24-20 in 2014.

Pick: Virginia Tech to cover

California vs UCLA

The California Golden Bears visit the UCLA Bruins in a Pac-12 Friday showdown with both teams ending their regular seasons. The winner of this game will become bowl eligible while the loser ends its season completely.

Cal is currently 7-point chalk in this but 0-4 SU and 1-3 ATS in their last four games on the road. UCLA is 5-0 SU and 3-2 ATS at home this season.

The host team in this matchup is 13-3-1 ATS in the last 17 meetings, while the dog has covered the number in 14 of the past 21 between the two rivals. However, at UCLA, the Golden Bears are a miserable 1-6-1 ATS in their last eight games.

Pick: Cal to cover
