Scott Morris | October 9, 2017
Chiefs and Texans Combined to scored 76 points Sunday night

With just Monday Night Football to play between the Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Bears, here is a look at the betting results from Week 5 in the 2017 NFL regular season.

Favorites during the week were 7-6 straight up and against the spread. Home teams were 4-9 SU and ATS, while the over/under finished 6-7.

The three biggest underdogs to win outright were Jacksonville (+7) over Pittsburgh 30-9, the LA Chargers (+3) over the NY Giants 27-22 and Baltimore (+3) over Oakland 30-17.

The three biggest favorites that covered were Philadelphia (-6.5) over Arizona 34-7, New England (-4) over Tampa Bay 19-14 and Cincinnati (-3) over Buffalo 20-16.

The Carolina Panthers are 4-1 to start the season, after winning a second consecutive road game against a team playing above .500. The Panthers beat Detroit 27-24. Carolina on the road is 3-0 SU and ATS, while the OVER has cashed the past three games.

Totals

The Sunday Night Football battle between the Chiefs and Texans was a shootout with the Chiefs hanging on for a 42-34 victory. The point total closed at 45 and was easily covered with the 76 points scored between the two teams.

However, it did not always look like it would be an OVER. Entering the final quarter the teams had only combined for 36 points, but proceeded to score a combined 40 points during the fourth quarter.

The week’s lowest closing total of 39 between Buffalo and Cincinnati cashed UNDER as the Bengals won 20-16 in rainy Cincinnati. In Pittsburgh, it rained hard as well helping another low closing number of 41.5, cash UNDER as the Steelers and Jaguars combined to score just 39 points in the game.

The sun was shining in south Florida by the Titans and Dolphins (41.5) also cashed UNDER helped by Tennessee not having star quarterback Marcus Mariota under center due to an injury.

The Chargers and Giants (45) cashed OVER despite both teams being 0-4 to start the game. The game was the second straight that cashed OVER for the Chargers and third straight OVER for the Giants.

Monday’s game will feature a new quarterback for the Bears as they debut rookie Mitchell Trubisky under center. Quarterback Sam Bradford could start after being injured in Minnesota’s opener. The line is Minnesota -3.5 with the point total at 40.5.
