Two Straight Road Games to Start the Season Tough on NFL Teams

Scott Morris | September 16, 2017

Not many NFL teams must play two straight games on the road to start the season, and those that do, perform dismally.

Most bettors spend hours perusing the reams of data on NFL trends including all that was produced following Week 1 last weekend.

One trend that jumps of the page is road teams that win during Week 1 and must go on the road again to play during Week 2.

Dating back to 2012 teams there have been 8 teams victorious Week 1 on the road then turn around and took to the highway for Week 2. Those eight teams are a dismal 1-7 straight up and 2-6 against the spread in their Week 2 game.

If you think back to Week 1 games this year a big trend was the over/under with the UNDER cashing in 10 of 15 games.

Well the opposite happens in this incidence. Not only does the road warrior the first two week have a poor SU and ATS record, but the OVER has cashed in 7 of the 8 games.

Of course the sample size is quite small but even dating back another season and the OVER cashed in 10 of the 11 games that a road team was playing its second consecutive game away from home opening the season.

Now the big question on the minds of everyone reading this article is if there is an NFL matchup during Week 2 of the NFL regular season that fits into this situation. The quick answer is yes.

The Philadelphia Eagles will play the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium. The Eagles are currently 5.5-point road dogs for the game and the total points are 47.5.

The Chiefs are coming off a stunning win Week 1 over the New England Patriots 42-27, while the Eagles were victorious in Week 1 on the road over the Washington Redskins 30-17.

The Eagles scored 30 in their opener and the Chiefs 42, while the defenses for each gave up 17 and 27 respectively, so there could be some fireworks on offense for this matchup on Sunday as well.

An Eagles loss and the OVER have value in this game.
