Alabama Remains at the Top, FSU Odds Plummet

Scott Morris | September 7, 2017

Last week things went from bad to worse for the Florida State Seminoles in their game against the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Seminoles were not only losing by a large margin late in the game on Saturday night, but then suddenly lost their starting quarterback Deondre Francois to injury.

Francois suffered a torn patellar tendon and will be out for the remainder of this season.

The starting quarterback job for the Seminoles has been placed on the shoulders of James Blackman a true freshman.

Blackman was not that highly recruited his senior year of high school, but intrigued the FSU coaching staff enough with his potential that they recruited him to play for them.

Head coach Jimbo Fisher must now rally the troops around an inexperienced teenage quarterback if he hopes to have a shot at reaching the College Football Playoff and winning a second national championship at the helm of FSU.

Because of their loss to Alabama and the loss of Francois for the season, Florida State’s odd to win this season’s national championship plunged down the futures board.

Entering Week 1 FSU was sitting at +750 to win the national title, which were the fourth-shortest odds in the nation.

However, after losing to Alabama and receiving the bad news on Francois, FSU is +2500 to win the national title. For many football pundits the +2500 odds for FSU are generous.

Alabama with its impressive play in the second half to beat the Seminoles remains the favorite to win the title. The Tide made halftime adjustments and held the FSU highly touted offense to only 7 points and 250 yards for the game.

The Tide will be on cruise control for a few weeks not playing another opponent that is ranked until October 21.

Following Alabama with the second shortest odds is Ohio State at +575. USC is next at +700, while Penn State, Michigan and Oklahoma are all +1400.

Oklahoma plays Ohio State this weekend in a showdown of heavyweights and the outcome of that game will shuffle the current odds.
