Top Betting Games in College Football Week 1

Scott Morris | August 24, 2017

Don’t look now — but the “Week Zero” games in this year’s college football season are set for this coming weekend. A lot of these games involve some meetings between contenders and cupcakes in neutral sites (such as Stanford taking on Rice in Australia) and some other matchups feature pairs of teams that are both unreliable. As we move into Week One, though, there are some college football betting matchups that you shouldn’t miss. Take a look at our matchups for your consideration (For more information on these and other game, visit MyBookie.ag).

Top Betting Games in College Football Week 1

Tulsa at #10 Oklahoma State (7:30pm ET)
Date:
Thursday, August 31

NCAAF Odds: Oklahoma State -17

The Golden Hurricane showed a lot of offense last season — as did the Cowboys. So when Tulsa visits Oklahoma State, we see two programs that treat defense more like something that they have to put out there than a real priority for the program, hoping instead simply to outscore the opposition. I don’t see Oklahoma State losing to Tulsa at home, but I also don’t see the Cowboys mounting the sort of defensive stands that will allow them to move 17 points ahead of their in-state foe — particularly in the first week of the season, when mistakes are the order of the day.

#2 Ohio State at Indiana (8:00pm ET)
Date:
Thursday, August 31
NCAAF Odds: Ohio State -20

The last time Ohio State football took the field, they were on the wrong end of a shutout at the hands of the Clemson Tigers in the national semifinals. The Buckeyes will be ready for some redemption when they hit the field against the Hoosiers — and Ohio State arrives with a new defensive coordinator, who just happened to coach Indiana last year. Why did he leave the Hoosiers? He was fired for allegations of player mistreatment. So there’s lots of drama on the field, but there’s also a lot of frustration for J.T. Barrett and the Ohio State offense to work out.

Navy at Florida Atlantic (8:00pm ET)

Date: Friday, September 1

NCAAF Odds: Navy -11.5

The Naval Academy hung 75 points on SMU in their last game before losing their quarterback and their tailback to injury — and now that they are back and healthy, that dynamic offense is ready to appear again. Yes, Lane Kiffin is now the head coach at FAU, but he is more of an offensive mind than a defensive one. I see the Midshipmen overwhelming Florida Atlantic with their offense and rolling to a win — and a cover. If you can get a point total on this game that is under 50, I would definitely consider the “over” as I see Navy getting things rolling in a big way after halftime.

#11 Michigan at #17 Florida (3:30pm ET)
Date:
Saturday, September 2
NCAAF Odds:
Michigan -4

The Wolverines are eager to come out and make a statement with their offense (despite keeping their starting quarterback’s name under wraps as of this writing). The Gators come in with an ironclad defense but struggle mightily to move the ball.

#3 Florida State vs #1 Alabama (8:00pm ET, Atlanta)
Date:
Saturday, September 2
NCAAF Odds: Alabama -6.5

The Seminoles style themselves as contenders in the ACC, with Deandre Francois returning at quarterback for his sophomore season and that solid defense from a year ago returning most of their starters. They’ll get a real test in the opener with Alabama — the team that demolished USC in their neutral-site opener a year ago.

Alabama also returns a sophomore quarterback with terrific talent in Jalen Hurts, and the Tide have that memory of their last-minute loss in the national championship game to motivate them. I see the Tide winning and covering here as they prepare to make yet another statement about their intentions for the season.
