Manchester United Moves Up in Futures for EPL

Scott Morris | August 22, 2017

Even though a 4-0 victory over Swansea was not enough to put Manchester United at the top of the English Premier League futures board, it did prompt talk that the Red Devils might just deserve the top spot.

The most recent update of futures for the EPL has the gap narrowing between the two Manchester clubs but rival Manchester City is still favored to win the EPL at +150 thanks in part to last week’s heroics by Raheem Sterling.

A late equalizer by Sterling bagged a draw for city at 1-1 with Everton. Without the equalizer and subsequent draw, Manchester United might have taken the top spot this week.

United opened the EPL campaign at +325 to win the title, but has moved to +200 after two strong weeks of play with few if any weaknesses apparent.

The Red Devils under Jose Mourinho face Leicester City Saturday which could be a difficult test for the 11. However, United is heavily favored by sportsbooks to take all three points at Old Trafford their home pitch.

Chelsea was able to get back on track in its defense of the EPL title with a hard fought 2-1 triumph in the London Derby over Tottenham. The Blues did not play up to par and were outplayed the entire match by the Spurs but Thibaut Courtois made some impressive saves and a Marcus Alonso brace was the difference.

Chelsea has the third shortest odds at +550 after their win over Tottenham. The Spurs have not been able to score, as Harry Kane’s trouble scoring during August continues and those problems are evidenced by their futures line of +1000.

The other two clubs in the top six of the EPL had a difficult time, with Arsenal falling 1-0 at the hands of Stoke and Liverpool needing all it could do to muster a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace following an opening match draw. The Reds now hold the fifth shortest odds to win the EPL at +1400, but Arsenal fell to +1600.

One huge surprise in the opening two weeks is Huddersfield Town, the newly promoted club took all six points from its first two matches without conceding a goal.

Nevertheless, the club sits at +75000 to win the league title.
