Giants and Packers Have a History at Lambeau Field

Scott Morris | January 5, 2017

One of the NFL wildcard games this week features the Green Bay Packers hosting the New York Giants. There are a number of historical storylines surrounding this matchup. However, should the bettor rely on those past games between the two team, as a way to predict what will happen this Sunday?

The Giants were on the road in both 2007 and 2011 while beating Green Bay at Lambeau Field during frigid temperatures. New York went on to win the Super Bowl those two seasons as well. The Giants were underdogs for both those games and are 4.5-point road dogs for this Sunday’s game.

Eli Manning played very well in each of those games. However, in 2007, he was an up and coming star, in 2011, he was in his prime, but he is now on the backside of his career.

At 36, Manning did not have a strong season in 2016. The Giants have not scored more than 30 points this entire season and have not reached 20 points since the latter part of November.

Only five other players remain on the Giants from the team in 2011. Two, Jason Pierre-Paul and Zak DeOssie are injured and the other three Will Beatty, Victor Cruz and Mark Herzlich have vastly reduced roles for the team.

If the Giants are able to come out of Wisconsin with another big victory it would be thanks to a defense that has given up the second fewest points during the regular season as well as being the best in the red zone.

The Giants will be facing a red-hot Green Bay team that has won six straight. Aaron Rodgers is back to MVP form with 15 touchdowns passes and no interceptions during the Pack’s six-game winning streak.

Regardless of the team you choose to win or cover this week, the past two playoff meetings between the two should have little or no impact on your choice.

Sharp money lives for now and understand that prior games from 6 and 10 years ago mean zero as soon as the opening kickoff has been made on Sunday.
