Nyquist Favored in 142nd Kentucky Derby on Saturday
Nyquist the undefeated two year old drew the 13 post for the 142nd running on Saturday on the Kentucky Derby and remains the betting favorite with odds of +300.
The field of 20 horses will go to the starting gate Saturday May 6 with a 6:34 p.m. ET post time.
The talented Mario Gutierrez will ride Nyquist. The two-year old will be looking to win his eighth straight start. In his most recent start, Nyquist was victorious in the Florida Derby April 2.
Gutierrez won the 2012 Kentucky Derby aboard I’ll Have Another.
Exaggerator the winner of the Santa Anita Derby drew post 11. He is trained by Keith Desormeaux.
Defeated by Nyquist in the San Vicente, then by Mor Spirit and Danzing Candy in the San Felipe, Exaggerator then went out and ran away with the Santa Anita Derby by six lengths with Kent Desormeaux aboard the brother of trainer Keith.
Exaggerator is currently at +750 to win.
Mohaymen was victorious in five straight starts to begin his career. He was the early favorite to win the Derby, but was not his best finishing fourth in the Florida Derby.
His price to win went from +225 as the favorite in early March to a current +800. Mohaymen will be in post 14 when the race begins on Saturday.
Gun Runner is at +900. The two year will leave the gate at post 5. He is coming off a win on March 26 in the Louisiana Derby.
Nyquist is the clear favorite at this point, but that could change after Friday’s practice run and on the day of the race, as bettors line up at the window to make their wagers.
