Odds Makers Favor Golden State in NBA Finals
The NBA season has finally reached its climax. On Thursday June 4, the NBA Finals will begin between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors. As soon as the Warriors won Game 5 of their Western Conference finals to win the conference championship, odds makers posted the opening line for the best of seven NBA Finals.
Odds makers have placed Golden State as the favorite to win the title.
Golden State is currently at -270 with Cleveland at +230 on some sites, while others have the Warriors at -230 and the Cavaliers +210.
The point spread for the opening game to be played at Oracle Arena in Oakland, California was Golden State -5.5 to -6. The total points for Game 1 opened anywhere from 203.5 to 204.5.
A full week is left before the opening tip, which will give odds makers, bettors and the public a change to dissect the pairing. However, the early line seems to have the Warriors a bit overvalued.
The two teams are very even said one basketball insider who believes the line should be more like Warriors-3 or -3.5 and Golden State at -180 or the -190.
Another analyst said that Golden State was a jump shooting team and he was skeptical of that type of team at this stage of the season playing against a physical and competitive team such as the Cavaliers.
The Warriors and Cavaliers played head to head twice during the regular season. However, only one game was played by LeBron James. In that game, Cleveland routed the Warriors 110-99 as 3-point chalk at home. The game cashed UNDER the 216.5 total. LeBron scored 42 points in that game.
Another factor in the series will be the big layoff. First, it could help Cleveland with the different injuries including to Kyrie Irving and LeBron and the layoff might also make the UNDER look better in the first game as the offense could find it hard to get back a game-time rhythm.
