NFL Additions to Rosters, OROTY Odds

May 7, 2024
NFL ROTY odds

The 2024 NFL draft might be over, but not the off-season activity as teams continue adding to their rosters. There aren’t a ton of huge free agents still there, but there are chances to grab some players of magnitude.

A couple of teams made moves this past week, but the transactions are now going to slow down considerably until the cuts begin.

There’s no NFL offseason when it comes to news, with two recent moves worthy of note. Here’s a look at what happened, and a gaze at wagering choices to win Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Claypool to Bills

It was the Buffalo Bills shocking the NFL world earlier this offseason, Buffalo sending star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans. A difficult offseason in western New York has seen a number of key veterans leave the Bills.

Buffalo hasn’t been able to replace all of those departed players, but it recently brought another wide receiver into the mix. The team reached an agreement with wide receiver Chase Claypool on a one-year deal. Terms weren’t divulged.

Buffalo had previously selected Keon Coleman (Florida St.) with the 33rd pick in the draft, and that adds speed to the wide-receiver room. Claypool now gives the Bills some size.

Claypool, out of Notre Dame, has been bouncing around the NFL over the last few years. During the 2023 season, Claypool was with both the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins.

A second-round choice of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the ‘20 draft, Claypool’s off-field and work- ethic issues have been questioned. In a 58-game career, 175 receptions and 13 touchdowns.

Beckham to Dolphins

It’s no secret that the Miami Dolphins can score in a hurry (AFC-leading 491 points last season). However, the Fish were not content with their roster heading into this season, thus they went out to alter that.

Miami has agreed to a one-year million pact with wideout Odell Beckham Jr. Beckham had visited the Dolphins back in March, the two sides were not able to reach an agreement. This one can reportedly total more than $8 million.

Beckham will now join a team that already has Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, as the wideout adds a fifth team (New York Giants, Cleveland Browns, Los Angeles Rams and Baltimore Ravens) in what’s going to be his 11th year in the league. He has 59 career touchdowns.

Though unable to stay healthy in recent seasons, Beckham may increase the arsenal in Miami.

Offensive ROTY Odds

Since the 2024 NFL draft class was viewed as one of the best in recent memory, assume that many impact players are coming into the league. Odds to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Award are out.

There’s no surprise that former Southern Cal quarterback Caleb Williams of the Chicago Bears, first choice in the draft, is the clear favorite to win, according to NFL season awards. Priced at 3½-2 (+175), Williams is the starter in Chicago, surrounded by a star group of wide receivers.

The second selection, ex-Louisiana St. (now Washington Commander) quarterback Jayden Daniels, is co-second choice at 6-1 (+600). Those are the same odds as Ohio St. wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr., drafted at No. 4 by the Arizona Cardinals.

By the way, North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye, who was selected third by the New England Patriots, is at 14-1 (+1400).

Houston Texans’ quarterback C.J. Stroud (4,108 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, five interceptions) won this award last season.

Others to consider in this market include…

  • JJ McCarthy/quarterback (Minnesota Vikings) 7-1 (+700)
  • Malik Nabers/wide receiver (New York Giants) 12-1 (+1200)
  • Bo Nix/quarterback (Denver Broncos) 14-1 (+1400)
  • Xavier Worthy/wide receiver (Kansas City Chiefs) 14-1 (+1400)
  • Rest of Board 20-1 (+2000 or higher)

If you’re looking ahead to such things, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck is the 4-1 (+400) favorite to be chosen first, as per 2025 NFL draft odds.
